To enable the prevention, management, and education for a continually changing public health issue. This creates amendments to bills in the public health services acts providing emergency mental health and substance abuse training (“text- H.R7316 – 116th Congress (2019-2020). There is a steady rise in substance abuse, especially related to mental health cases across the nation. The increase in emergency mental health emergencies is the drive behind representative Rose Max 11th district who sponsored the H.R. 7316 bill in an attempt to create centers designated explicitly for emergency mental health and substance abuse technical training centers created in June of 2020. This act improves the training that professionals obtain in assessing and implementing treatment for mental health and substance abuse emergencies.
The need for the training of professionals is as critical as having the properties to treat these patients. There is a substantial need to increase access to these specially trained professionals in the healthcare setting, public settings, and mental health settings. An example would be that by adequately training these professionals, their stress and unwillingness to help mental health and substance abuse patients decrease, creating a better outcome for everyone. Right now, mental health patients are seen as “attention-seeking, while drug abuse is seen as a “waste of time” in the medical professional who is a poorly educated mind. Better educating the professional we can assist them in having a different mindset when helping these patients.
In a 2014 study by (Hedden et al., 2015), it was estimated that just over 20 million united states citizens over the age of 18 struggled with substance abuse issues, with almost 8 million of those patients having mental health issues. These numbers are especially important when studied together because it is now believed that one issue is causing the other this information helps in the improved training of professionals attempting to change these issues.
