Branchial Cleft Fistula Repair LOCATION: Outpatient, Hospital PATIENT: Lori Davison ATTENDING PHYSICIAN: Jeff King, MD SURGEON: Jeff King, MD PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Left branchial cleft fistula. POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Same as Preoperative. PROCEDURE PERFORMED: Excision of left branchial cleft fistula extending into the area of the left piriform sinus. ANESTHESIA: General endotracheal. INDICATIONS: This is a 20-year-old female who has had a draining pit in the left mid-neck, just anterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle, since early childhood. The patient now desires definitive surgical treatment. PROCEDURE: After consent was obtained, the patient was taken to operating room and placed on the operating table in the supine position. After an adequate level of general endotracheal anesthesia was obtained, the patient was positioned for surgery on the left neck. The patient’s left neck was prepped with Betadine and draped in a sterile manner. The pit was noted in the junction between the superior and inferior of the neck just anterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle. On compressing the upper portion of the neck, some drainage was noted from the pit.
