It is now a month later and Gene is still in the hospital. There is a back log in Emergency of patients waiting for admission. The team is being pressured to discharge all patients as soon as possible. The attending physician and the charge nurse are being pressured by their administrative leadership to discharge Gene home within 48 hours, as he has been deemed medically stable for over a week now. The home care coordinator has yet to assess Gene. Gene still requires assistance with all Activities of Daily Living (ADL) on the ward and is not yet aware of the plan for discharge nor is Mary-Anne, who is back in Thunder Bay.

How does an understanding of interprofessional conflict impact the way you will collaborate?
What principles about conflict management might you use to facilitate a safe and timely discharge for Gene?
