As a graduate student, you are often tasked with finding appropriate scholarly work to evaluate for evidence-based interventions. Our patients, however, often turn to Google or acquaintances for medical advice and education prior to coming to your office. For example, I once had the mother of a pediatric patient with autism insist that I start her child on at least 100 mg of Lamictal because “that’s what my friend’s son is on and it works great for his outbursts”. The patient was 6 years old and the person to whom she was referring was 17 years old. Please conduct a search of your current scholastic resources (ie. textbook publishers or NEI Global) and online for educational materials for your future patients. Please advise us all which resources you located, what they offer, and how you feel that might help you as a future practitioner?
