Â
Scenario:Â
Â
Jane Smith is an 11-year-old female client with no history of medical concerns and treatments. Last December 22, 2022, she was rushed to the emergency room of x Hospital, presenting shortness of breath and chest pain. She states that she started having intermittent chest pain two days prior that feels like heavy pressure under her sternum, especially when she does physical activities like climbing the stairs.
She was directed to an oncologist who sent her for several cardiac tests including a chest x-ray, electrocardiogram or ECG, and an echocardiogram, to determine the cause of her symptoms.
Her cardiac test results confirm a large pericardial effusion, and she is directly admitted by her oncologist to a telemetry unit pending pericardiocentesis.
