Jane is a 17-year-old female who has been brought into the emergency room for severe abdominal pain that has been getting more severe over the last 6-8 hours. Her urine pregnancy test has come back negative. Jane will need further diagnostic tests done, an IV started and IV medications administered. Can you help Jane?Answer the following questions bellow using the scenario
.Jane Rabbit Tail has been ordered an IV. In your discussion with the parents on why an IV is needed for their daughter, what rationale(s) would you include?
.As per the MAR medication administration record, you are setting up a continuous IV for Jane Rabbit Tail. The order is 1000 mL NS to infuse over 8 hours. If the IV administration set has a drop factor of 10 gtt/ml, calculate the drops per minute.
.With respect to the intravenous, what assessments would you make for Jane Rabbit Tail?
.What are some possible complications with Jane’s IV that may occur?
.For #4, how would you intervene?
.Jane Rabbit Tail has an order for Ondansetron. Open the Meds section of her chart. Double click to see the order detail. Discuss how you will mix this medication? What is the rate/hour and the drop rate/1 min? Assume 10gtt factor.
.For the above order, ‘administer’ the medication by selecting ‘Administer’ in the bottom left corner. You will need the barcode ID found in the Order Detail.
.Should Jane’s IV be disconnected after each dose of Ondansetron? Yes or No, and your reasoning.
