Practice Case Study “Mrs. George”
Â
Mrs. George is an 83 yo woman living alone in the house she has lived in for almost 50 years. Her husband died 4 years ago from complications related to dementia, and Mrs. George was his primary caregiver. She managed to keep him at home with minimal outside assistance except for occasional transportation help to the local senior center. Mrs. George prides herself on her own self-reliance and does not like to ask for help. She has never learned to drive but uses public transportation daily. Mrs. George’s daughter Regina has come with her today for her annual well-visit. Regina reports that she recently visited her mother’s home and found that it is not as clean as Mrs. George normally keeps it, and there wasn’t much food in the refrigerator. When asked, Mrs. George replies that keeping up with her household chores is becoming more physically difficult but that she’s “fine” and doesn’t need help.
