The scenario
Guy is a 32-year-old man who has recently experienced a stroke. Whilst he was in the hospital, he was referred to the Indigo Community Services and Health Hub Disability Services (Indigo) as part of his rehabilitation.
Guy is highly intelligent, and his profession is an information technology specialist. Before the stroke Guy worked for a number of high-profile organisations and businesses. In his spare time, he built computers, designed web pages for friends and read detective stories.
Guy currently lives in supported accommodation through Indigo, but it is positive it will only be a short- term arrangement. At the moment he has support with his personal care and social and living skills as he has experienced changes to his mobility and has some short-term memory loss. Guy presently requires assistance with showering and dressing, his meals (e.g. cutting up the food) and organising himself (e.g. getting to meals on time, or to be ready for the bus). He is working hard in all areas and feels he is improving.
You will play the role of the Indigo Disability Support Worker who will be supporting Guy to develop the skills needed to use his new adaptive and assistive eating and cooking utensils Indigo’s Occupational Therapist has recommended. The adaptive utensils consist of an incurve, non- slip plate and cup, adaptive cutlery, and assistive cooking utensils.
Your role will be to support Guy in a manner that promotes self-efficacy, is empowering and focusses on Guy’s strengths to assist him to gain independence and make mealtimes a pleasurable experience once again. These strategies have been identified in the Individualised plan that was recently developed by Guy, in collaboration with his support team.
For the purpose of this task, it will be assumed you have previously organised a time and date to conduct a skills assessment with Guy. You have decided to make the session as informal and relaxed as possible, as the process of learning to use the new equipment may be frustrating for Guy. Guy would like to try making a fruit salad so you have agreed to prepare the fruit salad together using the new equipment and then will share the fruit salad as a snack.
Initially, Guy was reluctant at the thought of using equipment he only ever thought ‘old’ people used but he knows it’s part of his rehabilitation and won’t be forever. Guys love of food and cooking has greatly influenced his decision to give the utensils a ‘crack’.
You have organised to meet with Guy in the dining room after breakfast. You have asked Guy if there was anyone else that he would like to invite, perhaps his parents, some friends, or the Occupational Therapist. Guy replied that he was happy not to have anyone there until he became more proficient.
At the completion of the role-play you in the role of the disability support worker will be required to produce a skills development plan that records the following information:
Evidence that you have asked Guy was asked if there was anyone else he would like to be present to support him.
Your observations in relation to his skill development using the equipment, noting if Guy actively engaged.
That you provided Guy with accurate information on the equipment e.g. pictures showing correct handling, websites to research, YouTube clips to watch.
That you offered Guy different scenarios /environments where he could try out his new equipment.
That the strategies outlined in his plan were followed.
Guy’s personal strengths and goals identified.
That you provided Guy with positive reinforcements, encouragement and constructive feedback
Any difficulties were identified and noted.
Any incidental opportunities for skills development that presented themselves.
You noted when support was appropriately withdrawn.
I need help with those two

Using this example, provide two sources of information you could refer to when seeking advice on what to do going forward.
