After reading through the Red Cross site on disaster preparedness the main thing that jumped out to me was preparing kids. I have three kids at home and no matter how prepared I am for something it can all end in disaster if they do not have a plan also. When it comes to pediatrics emergency being prepared for all sorts of scenarios is important for the best outcome possible (Clancy & Kacica 2012). It is important for parents to communicate with their children the plan in case they get separated in a disaster. Clancy & Kacia (2012) articles talks about how hospitals and first responders also need to be aware that some children will not have a plan and they need help keep these adolescents together. These children will also need to be identified and hopefully reunited. I feel ready myself, but I was surprised once I spoke with my kids at how unprepared they were for an emergency. 

  The check list for the emergency kits is extremely helpful. I took the test and did get 100% on what is needed for the emergency kits! Answers being three days’ worth or water and a gallon of water per day per family member, along with extras of all pet supply, batteries, hearing aids and contacts. It was extremely helpful to see some of these things in writing and take it to Walmart to purchase items and have a centralized location within the house to grab the bag and go to safety. 

Sharing the information with the community would be to get newsletters out in the township as well as a social media campaign to keep try and get all citizens to notice and think about preparedness.
