You are working in an emergency department treating a 7-year-old child with a large laceration to the back of her head. The child is accompanied by her mother and her mother’s partner. The mother’s partner steps out to use the bathroom and the mother breaks down telling you she is frightened of her partner who is violent to both her and her daughter. She begs you not to say anything.

a)Â Â Â Â Â What are your mandatory reporting obligations as an Enrolled Nurse in this situation?Â
A mother posts an update about her daughter’s admission to hospital following a car accident where she sustained a broken leg. She is annoyed that her daughter has to wait for surgery but that everything had gone well. The mother tags her friend, a nurse who was working in the hospital ward the night the daughter was admitted. The nurse responds to the comment, thinking it was a private message and inadvertently provides information about the daughter’s recovery and the status of the other person in the car. The parents of the other person have seen the social media post and have contacted the hospital to complain.
