This class was a good foundation to understanding the roles of qualitative and quantitative research approaches in relation to using evidence-based practices to improve patient quality and safety in health care settings. Before the concepts of evidence-based practice, there as more confusion, disagreement, and lack of support for the decisions of coworkers who often relied on their own experiences and opinions in the care of patients and the workplace. Evidence-based practices are more acceptable guides for practitioners and healthcare professionals who can better justify and provide the best possible workplace environments, care, and treatments for patients (Grys, 2022). To best understand the concepts of evidence-based practices, it is important to understand the underlying foundations to such findings, which is where this class has helped.

I can utilize the foundations of research and evidence-based practices to help promote a more informed and collaborative approach to the care setting. When I can promote workplace practices and care based on the strongest and more current evidence, variations can be reduced and accountability improved. It is possible through the types of knowledge learned in this program and class to be a leader among staff in the areas of evidence-based practice, research, and scholarship. I will be able to speak and communicate in a more informed manner as a result of the course and what I have learned about qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and designs in relation to evidence-based practices.

Implementing evidence-based practices has been recognized as a core competency required of all healthcare professionals and nurses as front-line healthcare providers need to be able to understand and become competent with evidence-based practices (Li et al., 2019). Experience has taught me that using well-established procedures requires ongoing research, assessments, and evaluations of the healthcare setting, staff, and practices.  Understanding the foundations of evidence-based practices is important to determining the most optimal ways to solve problems (Grys, 2022). I can use the knowledge I gained in this class as a way of continuing to build on the traditions of excellence in healthcare by promoting activities for discovering and adopting innovative interventions based on solid research evidence.
