Situation 1 – Assisting patients from non-English speaking backgrounds
Your role requires you to help make our non-English speaking patients more comfortable.
Today you are required to assist Ji-ho Lee with his first visit to our clinic. He is a Korean elderly gentleman who only speaks a limited amount of English. His son usually accompanies him when he visits his doctor to interpret for him but is away on holiday. His son has set up the appointment for Ji-ho today and he selected MAT Health Clinic because we have many culturally diverse staff members. CLICK HERE
When Ji-ho arrives at the clinic you will welcome him and have him complete the new patient form. As he only speaks limited English you will need to assist him with this. He may also have some questions for you that you will have to try to understand to ensure that his needs are met, and he feels comfortable while he is visiting the clinic today.

instructions playing the role of ji-hoÂ
You will be playing the role of Ji-ho. He is an elderly Korean gentleman who only speaks a limited amount of English. His son usually accompanies him when he visits his doctor to interpret for him but is away on holiday. His son has set up the appointment for Ji-ho today and has asked that someone assist him with his first visit.
You will arrive at the clinic showing a lot of uncertainty. Look confused by what the receptionist is asking you. Ask them for help in filling out some sections of the form without using too many words.
You are in a hurry. Try to find out from the receptionist how long the appointment will take. They cannot understand you.
