Analyze each component of each set of arterial blood gas (ABG) results, andÂ
determine if the findings indicate balance or imbalance. If an imbalance exists, determine if it isÂ
acidotic or alkalotic in nature. Then determine if the imbalance represents a respiratory problemÂ
or a metabolic problem. Once you have decided what the ABG values indicate, and if anÂ
imbalance exists, write at least one cause that could be the underlying reason for the imbalanceÂ
(don’t use the same reason repeatedly).
