As the emergency department nurse, you attempt to place an IV, but are unsuccessful. You are, however, able to draw blood for labs ordered by the ER doctor and send them to the lab. The ordered labs include: point of care Troponin (to be run at the bedside), CBC, CMP, and urinalysis. Diagnostic tests ordered include: chest x-ray and ECG. Other orders include: IV start and maintaining O2 saturation above 92%. Â
In addition, you are caring for two other patients, one of which (John) has an elevated D-Dimer and needs to be prepared to go to CT for an evaluation for a PE requiring placement of an appropriate IV. John requires a bolus of 1000mL NS due to an elevated HR of 115, and hypotension. John is afebrile.Â
As the nurse, what needs to be completed, coordinated, and delegated, and in what priority?
