Do some research on specific KSAs (knowledge, skills, and abilities) needed for success in your professional field. Focus on those core competencies that drive the profession and the soft skills needed for managing the day-to-day. Locate at least TWO resources to help you get a clear picture of this information.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Links to an external site.is a good place to start for general information, and CareerOne Stop Links to an external site.offers some interesting videos that help humanize what the duties and tasks might look like. You can then explore and find sources using Google Scholar and the WCU Library. This week’s resources include some helpful videos on doing research at WCU.
Additionally, don’t lose sight of what you can already check off: the knowledge, skills, and abilities you have already acquired and the strengths you have. And then look ahead. Your coursework will help you acquire many of the competencies you will need to position yourself for success in your field. But what is your overall plan to ensure you are prepared for the workforce when graduation day arrives?
Address the following in your initial post:
Identify the sources you found.
Describe the KSAs needed for success in your field.
Use direct quotes where appropriate to convey the information from your sources.
Reflect on the KSAs you already embody, while looking ahead to those you know you still need to acquire and master.
Reply to at least two peers in this forum. When selecting a peer to reply to, you can choose someone who has similar or different career trajectories. As you read your peers’ posts, consider if their sources might be useful for you as well. In your reply, focus on the KSAs you have in common as well as the differences.
