Consider the following scenario. A recent DNP grad, Michael, is excited about working on an internal medicine unit as an Acute Adult NP. He enjoys the relationship building and provider-patient interactions that occur over time. He feels fortunate that he graduated from a college of nursing that emphasized practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice. He believes he is prepared to build and improve care for his patients. He just learned of a new diabetes medication that was recently released, and he writes a clear aim to guide a project- he wants to use this medication with his panel of patients. He sets up a small electronic database of his patients who have diabetes and sends out a letter to to every other patient on the list, informing them that they will be starting on this new medication.
