Irving Chu is an elderly man who experiences frequent bladder infections because of an enlarged prostate gland. On his last visit to the physician he was prescribed a sulfonamide and methenamine mandelate (Mandelamine), a urinary tract antiinfective. In the past he has taken phenazopyridine (Pyridium), a urinary tract analgesic, and nalidixic acid (NegGram), a urinary tract antiinfective, for treatment of these infections. The practical nurse provides instruction about fluid intake and appropriate administration of the medication, and advises Mr. Chu to call if he has any problems.
